I question whether simply being in Syria endows one with the authority to know what exactly is going on there. For example, I live in Poland, and I have absolutely no idea what’s going on in the government because I can’t trust any available sources of information.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the general outline of affairs in the world and in my country as they are reported by the media. But never will I recognize that I know anything of salience or substance.
