  1. How many Netflix videos did you watch last year?
  2. How many YouTube videos did you watch last year?
  3. How many times did you have sex or eat ice cream?

Unless the answer is less than 10 or you’ve been writing it down somewhere, you probably don’t know. That’s what happens with things we enjoy.

We don’t rush them.

We don’t try to one-up our friends.

We don’t feel guilty if we are going too slow.

We are lavish in our consumption.

See?

That’s the difference.

If you want to read more books, stop treating it like a punishment.

Just pick up the book and read.

If you’re trying to pick up a new habit then I’ve got good news, you’re almost there.

All you have to do is simply start.

This is what makes the difference. Don’t worry about doing it again or getting good or anything else. Just start.

The first thing you will notice is that you suck at doing this new thing. That’s okay. You might not do this thing again so it doesn’t matter.

Once you start, you’ve actually made astronomical progress. It won’t feel like it, but it’s true.
