Heads Up LA: You May See People Riding The Metro In Their Underwear This Weekend
Join locals on a “pantsless” metro ride on Sunday, January 12!
Don’t be startled if you spot a group of Angelenos without pants boarding the Gold Line this weekend — a No Pants Subway Ride is taking place in a handful of cities around the world and L.A. is hopping on board! For its 12th year in a row, GuerilLA is gearing up to participate in Improv Everywhere’s international mission to travel throughout the metro with less clothing than usual.
The NYC-based “prank collective” began this hilarious tradition back in 2002 to purely attempt to brighten people’s day and make them laugh. Fast forward to nineteen years, hundreds of metro rides, and countless Facebook groups later and the Pantless ride has been adopted in over a dozen cities!
If you’re looking to participate this year, there aren’t many rules to the public prank; dress up for the day as you normally would but put your pants aside in your backpack or purse. The idea is to act as casual as possible, so for example, if someone asks you why you aren’t wearing any pants say something nonchalant like hmmm, I must have forgotten them.
But remember, just because you’re not wearing any pants you still have to wear underwear…
There are six different rendezvous points to choose from to partake in this mission:
— Del Mar station on the Gold Line in Pasadena
— Atlantic station on the Gold Line in East Los Angeles
— Willowbrook/Rosa Parks station on the A-Line (Blue) in Willowbrook
— North Hollywood station on the Red Line in North Hollywood
— Wilshire/Western station on the Purple Line in Koreatown
— Culver City station on the E Line (Expo) in Culver City
There will be a captain at each rendezvous point who will be there to lead the way, answer any question participants may have, as well as to inform everyone when it’s time to ‘de-pants’ themselves. A TAP card is required to ride the trains so be sure to plan accordingly! Happy riding L.A!
