VIRTUALLY TRUE

Google Chrome included a virtual reality feature in its browser recently. Using which a person who has access to VR head mounted displays can browse the whole web in virtual reality. Google became the latest to join the succession of brands deploying advanced VR technology to elevate the user experience .

The term virtual reality (VR) literally means almost real. In terms of technology, it is a computer generated three dimensional environment that gives the user a near practical experience. The effect is achieved by using virtual reality devices like head sets and visors that actually stimulate our senses together in order to create the illusion of reality.

Virtual reality was first conceptualized in the early 20th century. In the past few decades VR has evolved into a remarkable technology tool and has made its mark everywhere from gaming consoles to e-commerce .Initially, VR devices were used exclusively for entertainment utilities like movies and gaming. VR head sets were provided to the audience of VR enabled movies where the audience were able to view a 360 degree atmosphere in every scene. Gaming consoles were developed using computer induced user environments to make the whole gaming experience more realistic.

Soon Entrepreneurs and e-commerce giants who are keen on providing the finest customer service started relying on virtual reality to do the job. A recent example would be the collaboration between Swarovski and Mastercard to launch a virtual reality powered app . The shopping app aims to empower users to participate in a fully immersive and interactive shopping experience.

The immense success of VR technology in various fields has established the belief that VR is essential to create user friendly interfaces and to provide a pleasing environment to customers ,free of man-made error and complications. Today virtual reality is not restricted to the sense of sight alone. It has the potential to induce all our senses like smell , taste and touch. This is possible because ,scientists are incorporating into VR ,artificial nerve impulse inducers and transmitters that imitate actual brain impulses of human beings . Now we are actually looking at a scenario where we can hardly differentiate between what is real and what is not. With these mammoth advancements in technology ,it can be said without a doubt that Virtual Reality is slowly closing the distance between realism and idealism.
