I totally understand your point. I mean, no man would be taken seriously, if he would label himself as something like #BoyBoss, I mean… That has a very childish concatenation to it in my opinion. I would feel more proud with #ManBoss, because it sounds more mature. I think the same is valid for you woman, #WomanBoss vs #GirlBoss.
I would even say, it gives a degrading impression. We are ‘men’, but you are ‘girls’, feels that it implies you are always younger which caries for many people labels like, ‘naive’, ‘inexperienced’ and ‘not very serious’ (Imagine that sentiment in addition to a sexist attitude).
For me personally it has a high school touch to it. The first connection I made when I saw #GirlsBoss, were movie titles like, Gossip Girls and Mean Girls.
It is impossible to talk for all men out there, but I think the majority of us will struggle to take anyone serious — including other men — if they themselves are not taking themself serious.
At least, this is the angle I can give from ‘my’ male point of perspective.
