Two weeks ago, I watched a movie titled “Accepted”. It was recommended by my English Teacher, due to the similarity of the condition as a student in the edge of our senior year, waiting for a college admission. Accepted itself is an American comedy film directed by Steve Pink and released in 2006.

The plot revolves around a boy names Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long) who is rejected by every college he applies and refused to continue to college. Under the pressure of his parents, he decided to make a fake college, South Harmon Institute of Technology (S.H.I.T.) with his group of friends. Unfortunately, his ‘little lies’ starts to become a disaster when their website is actually working, and there are tons of people that applied to his fake college, and get accepted instantly as their motto is “Acceptance is just a click away”. Knowing his feeling when he gets rejected, Bartleby still continue his little lies, aware of the students feeling. Everything seems to going smoothly, they make their own curriculum on a giant whiteboard varying from culinary to psychokinesis, before it gets found out by the actual Harmon College’s dean, Richard Van Horne (Anthony Heald). Thus, they start to fight for their college.

The film is portrayed in a comedical ways which takes a common problem in our daily life such as the expectation that comes from our parents and our social life. The title itself is a little bit satirical because the story is about a group of people that getting rejected, but the title itself is Accepted. But as they covered it in a comical way, it doesn’t feel really serious and light. However, its a little bit disappointed that this movie is taking a wrong setting. They took a problem that happen in daily life, but the way the plot going is not the possible one. A group of teenager won’t be able to build a fictional college, no matter how calculated they are. Not even in a comedy film. But overall, the movie itself is worth to watch. Moreover for a last year student that filled with dilemma. However, there is some precaution to watch this movie with parental guide as this movie contain some inappropriate content.
