Pei Jing, a professional mixed doubles player, recently fell victim to a fraudulent scheme that has left her in a difficult financial situation.

In a heartfelt post on Facebook, the 31-year-old athlete expressed her distress and requested privacy for her family as they navigate the emotional aftermath of the incident.

Pei Jing, who is ranked 23rd in the world alongside her partner Tan Kian Meng, shared that she lost a significant portion of her savings to a group of scammers. She described the experience as a devastating setback after years of hard work.

“To my relatives and friends who come across this post, I kindly ask for some space and understanding as my family and I process our emotions. Especially my mom, please give us time to cope. Thank you.

“Yes, I was deceived by a fraudulent group and lost almost all of my hard-earned savings. It has been an incredibly difficult blow for me.

“I find myself constantly reflecting on the scam, blaming myself for being naive and too trusting. It weighs heavily on my mind whenever I have a moment of stillness,” she shared.

Despite the emotional toll, Pei Jing, who recently won the 2022 Korean Open mixed doubles championship, remains determined to move forward. She has been actively managing her emotions and cooperating with the authorities.

“I will share more details about the incident. My goal is to raise awareness and prevent others from falling victim to similar scams. I also need to accept the reality of what happened. Right now, I must stay strong and persevere because life goes on. The world doesn’t stop for anyone… It seems like being resilient is my only choice,” she stated.

Pei Jing also mentioned that she needs some time to process everything before deciding how to share the specifics of the scam with others. She hopes that her story will serve as a cautionary tale and protect others from being deceived.

At the recently concluded Singapore Open, Pei Jing and Kian Meng were eliminated early in the competition.
