Employees must understand how to correctly select, utilize, and clean any personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE degrades over time and has limitations in terms of hazard protection; your employees should be aware of these limitations.

Good operational and safety training is perhaps the most effective protection you can provide your employees. When a worker recognizes a hazard, he or she can utilize his or her skills to take control of the situation and prevent being exposed to hazardous conditions. If you want your employees to operate equipment safely, they must first be instructed in operating principles, equipment controls, and potential hazards to themselves and others.

Maintenance staff should be given information on the most recent machines that have been serviced, and they should keep track of this information in a log.

Maintenance personnel must also be aware of when to LOCK OUT machinery. This is especially important when the machine is being repaired.
