We need to identify individuals with talent for finding unusual, yet workable, solutions to practical problems.
I believe that psychologists should use videogames to test intelligence. And rather than write new ones, they should analyze current, popular games to correlate performance with intelligence and out-of-the-box thinking. Today’s kids are far more comfortable playing videogames than performing the pencil-and-paper or face-to-face tests designed generations ago to measure IQ. Without abandoning the old tests, we should add these new ways of measuring intelligence, to identify talent that might otherwise be overlooked.
