Mathilda: Empress, Queen, Warrior

Review of the book by Catherine Hanley

Well told tale of a fascinating historical figure.
Daughter of King Henry I of England, wife of Holy Roman Emperor Henry V, mother King Henry IIof England, grandmother of Richard I and John. She was almost, briefly Queen/ruler of England in her own right.
The author sorts through and explains the historical complexities of the time and puts together a compelling an enjoyable narrative, telling it from a gender-conscious perspective.

List of Richard’s other stories, essays, poems, and jokes.
