this is entry #1 in my series about beautility

i spent a week in paris this september. it is a magical city for a myriad of reasons, but the thing that always surprises me is the cultural investment in beauty that pervades almost every aspect of life. from the gilded flourishes on nearly every surface, to the intricate details of each pastry as you pass by the local pâtisserie — the french celebrate beauty with an effortless grace.

while i was inspired by a seemingly infinite number of things in paris, one thing that haunted me was the linen. from table linens to bed linens, i have become obsessed with french linen. prior to this year, i had always believed linen to be an infuriatingly fussy fabric filled with wrinkles and woe. now i love it for its weight, texture, warmth and drape.

for christmas this year, my husband stalked my pinterest (pro-tip fellas!), and bought me this little luxury — a linen blanket.

the blanket is an oatmeal/ivory plaid that goes with everything. it looks as good in my living room as it does in my bedroom… and for the past week, it has come with me from room to room to protect me against the chill. the texture of the linen is a gorgeous crumpled mess that i know will only get softer with age. it is a natural fabric, so it breathes. it is also remarkably weighty without being bulky. the snuggle factor is undeniable. i am also confident that this blanket will be around for quite some time — it was not cheap, but it is quality.

linen. love.
