I just want to say that “How to Be a GURPS GM” is the best GURPS book I have ever read.
I ran many GURPS games in the 3e days, but played very little 4e and was away form running games in general. This book brought back my confidence to GM again. It influenced me to start a mini-campaign with both new friends and old friends, which was very successful. I’m happily planning my next campaign.
Your advice to end each session with suspense, and to cut down on combat options liberally worked very well. Ignoring siding, retreat, and limiting hit locations while using hex map was the compromise I chose. It sped up combat a lot, while keeping enough tactical options for the PCs.
I recommend “How to Be a GURPS GM” to anyone who plans to run a GURPS game. Even if you are a seasoned GURPS GM, I believe you will have a lot to learn from it.
