As the clock ticks towards the discontinuation of NEAR Wallet services on October 31, 2023, securing your digital assets has never been more critical. This guide outlines each step you should follow for a smooth, worry-free transition to Sender Wallet.

Little heads-up

NEAR Wallet has released an official notice announcing its service shutdown, leaving you with limited time to take action. If you’re a NEAR Wallet user, now is the time to switch. Don’t delay — your assets need a new home!

NEAR Wallet has issued an official notice announcing its shutdown.

From here, you can migrate your NEAR wallet safely through 4 different ways:

  • Wallet Transfer Wizard (Recommended)
  • Private Key
  • Recovery Phrase
  • Hardware Wallet

Method 1: Using Wallet Transfer Wizard (Recommended)

Step 1: Prepare Your Accounts

First, disable two-factor authentication (2FA) in your existing NEAR Wallet. Head to ‘Security & Recovery’ in your wallet settings and turn off 2FA.

The Wallet Transfer Wizard is your best friend, specially built by the NEAR team — it’ll handle 2FA and other settings for you. Click ‘Transfer My Account’ to get started.

Step 2: Update Your Recovery Phrase

Before migrating to Sender Wallet, make sure to generate a new 12-word recovery phrase. Write it down in a secure location and confirm that it recovers the appropriate account.

Safety Note: Your recovery phrase holds the key to your account — store it securely and keep it private.

Step 3: Clean Up Third-Party Access

It’s time to review and disconnect third-party apps that you have granted access to your NEAR Wallet:

  • Go through the suggested keys to remove.
  • Use your updated recovery phrase to confirm the removal.

This step may require you to log back into some apps, so be prepared.

Step 4: Transfer to Sender Wallet

At this point, use the Wallet Selector to choose Sender Wallet as your new sanctuary for digital assets:

  • Select Sender Wallet from the list.
  • Choose the accounts you wish to migrate.
  • Generate a temporary password for secure account transfer.

Enter this password in Sender Wallet and follow the setup instructions there. When the process is complete, verify that you can access all your accounts.

Step 5: Finalize the Transition

Finally, to seal the migration process:

  • Head back to wallet.near.org.
  • Confirm your account access in Sender Wallet.
  • Log out from NEAR Wallet.
