Service Outage Today

Google experienced an outage this morning on its OAuth system, which affected a small percentage of Senders accounts. (OAuth is how we connect to Google/Gmail accounts and it’s how we are able to keep accounts secure by not storing any passwords.) In order to maximize user security, we err on the side of pausing accounts in certain extreme circumstances such as this (meaning affected user emails are no longer enhanced until affected users resume their accounts).

If you were an affected user, you should have received an email message with these instructions for resuming your account:

To resume receiving all the benefits of Senders, including enhanced emails and email untracking, please sign out of your account (if you’re signed in) and then log in to your account and resume the service at the bottom of your settings page.

In any case, if you’re a Senders user and you’ve stopped seeing the Senders Card or untracking notices in your emails, it’s worth checking to see if your account is paused.

Although outages such as this are a reality for any cloud service, we are looking at ways of recovering from third-party outages like this more gracefully in the future.
