Tech or technology is the application of scientific knowledge to solve various problems or serve a specific purpose.

When people think of career opportunities in tech, those that come to mind are usually frontend, backend, cybersecurity, UI/UX, and any other known to their environment or people around them. In some other cases, they believe that all careers in tech, or at least the ones that pay, involve being able to write code. That is most definitely not the case.

Here are some of the different careers in the technology industry.

  1. Computer Programming

Computer programmers are professionals that make use of different programming languages to write the code needed for the computer to perform what the users need it to. Some examples of these programmers are software engineers and software developers. The average annual salary of a computer programmer is $70,119.

2. Database Management

Database managers make use of computers to store data in large quantities, they are also responsible for taking security measures to ensure that important data in the company is kept safe. Database management goes hand in hand with cybersecurity. Some roles under data management are cyber security consultant, database administrator, information security analyst, and a lot more others. The average yearly salary of a database manager is $70,156.

3. Data Visualization

This field of technology helps organizations understand the latest and important data trends and plays an important role in their decision-making. The data visualization field involves the collection of data and the creation of a visual representation of its findings. Roles under these are data visualization engineers, data analysts, and data scientists. The average annual salary of a data visualization specialist is $71,832.

4. Program, project, and product management

These three career roles involve different tasks, but in some organizations, particularly smaller ones, the responsibilities could either overlap or not be clearly defined.

Program managers are responsible for the outlook of a collection of different projects under a particular program. A program manager earns an average of $92,437 yearly.

Project managers are responsible for creating the project plan and utilizing the available resources needed to complete a project within the required time frame and budget. Project managers earn an average of $78,912 yearly.

Product managers are more or less responsible for the management of products, both for the company(product) and customers, they are also in charge of communicating the plans surrounding the product to their teammates and stakeholders. The average salary of a product manager is $102,220 yearly.

5. Scrum masters

Scrum masters make use of agile project management to handle projects, teams, and team members. Although it’s quite similar to project management, scrum masters are focused mainly on the team and the individual success of team members while project managers focus on the project.

A few more careers under technology are information systems, IT support, site reliability, and quality assurance, among others. The tech world is full of different career paths that are yet to be noticed, it’s constantly evolving and as a result, it is important to stay updated and well-informed on the new technologies coming up. The average salary of a scrum master is $92,510.

6. Quality assurance

Quality assurance is a software engineering process that covers all project-related tasks. Workers in this role ensure that the final project is free of error and also determine if a project or service meets the required standard. Quality assurance analyst and quality assurance manager are some of the opportunities under this career path. The average pay of a quality assurance manager is $44,279.

7. Software testing

Software testing as the name implies is simply the process of finding out how well a product or service works. This is important for the reduction of development costs, performance improvement, and bug prevention of a project.

Although it appears quite similar to quality assurance, software testing assists with finding and fixing already existing errors, while quality assurance prevents them. Test automation engineer and Quality assurance tester are some roles under software testing. The average salary of a software testing specialist is $69,374.

These salaries vary based on years of experience and the company the individual is working for.
