SOLUTIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

Unlike what futuristic films can sell us, for now and for a long, long time, we will only have this planet to live on, for that reason it is very important that we focus as soon as possible on finding solutions to the global environmental issues that threaten our environment and with it, our life on the planet. There are many issues enclosed in the term environmental problems but, the most important of all or at least the one that is closest to us both to aggravate it (as has happened historically) and to solve it, if we become aware of the issue, is environmental pollution.

SOLUTIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

  • Land and trees must be replaced if they are used for agriculture or other activities: Some areas of agriculture affect some forested areas by the need for good land for food, this does not affect much of nature if whenever it is done is planted “and protects” a larger number of trees. The same applies to the felling of trees for leaves, products such as pencils, tables, furniture… these companies must be forced, through laws, to replace each tree used and, conveniently, a greater amount of hectares planted than those they use.
  • Let us preach by example: It is very easy to buy an ecological bag to make a market or to use a flannel that says “let’s not pollute the world”. How many of those who read this article now leave the charger plugged in all night and sometimes (worse) during the day when they leave home? How many yearn for their own car just because it is the goal that was sold to us as success, when in reality, with one or two cars, a family can manage comfortably for daily chores and some occasional outing? It is there, where it is most difficult for us to contribute, because as human beings exposed to the media, we are used to exaggerated consumption, but we start at home, so we pollute less and take better care of the use of water, electricity, cars … all elements that ultimately affect pollution.
  • The oceans are not an infinite dump: This is a very delicate issue, between chemicals, atomic tests and garbage, tons of garbage that processing plants throw into the sea every day, we are turning the ocean into an endless dump, our world is composed mostly of water and that is no accident, we need water to live, governments must work on harsh laws that punish and above all, discourage companies from using natural spaces as their own particular dump.
  • Beware the repair of cars and motorcycles: Actually the list may include boats, bicycles even … we refer to the bad habit of repairing some vehicle in front of the house or outside the garage, leaving everything full of grease, what with the rain spills and becomes pollution, another way to attack our world, human masochism has no limits.
  • Group outings should include provision for garbage: That is to say, when we go out with family or friends, it is normal for us to worry about food, soft drinks, umbrellas, towels … but the first thing we should think about is the bags for garbage, not to pollute the beach, park or river where we are going to spend the day. If we do not mentalize that enjoyment does not have to be synonymous with leaving the facilities dirty, we will never get out of the quagmire of pollution as synonymous with human presence. Unfortunately, it is a painful reality: we prohibit taking animals to beaches, parks or other places and it turns out that animals coexist in many natural spaces without pollution problems, it is humans who take this problem to these sites.
  • Choose and work on places for urban projects: The world offers many uninhabited spaces that are not near rivers or in forests but, if it is impossible, we have to resort to these areas for urban projects, let’s take the minimum care with our environment, to work to plant trees in a nearby reserve, not only is it a matter of taking care of the number of trees adding in one side what is subtracted in another as a mathematical thing, the plant lungs fulfill a function there where they are, therefore, of being impossible to avoid hurting a plant lung, the planting and protection of trees must be arranged in the nearest possible place
  • The Zero Waste challenge is an international initiative that promotes the reduction of waste, particularly domestic waste, as a means of avoiding the problems associated with landfills and incineration, the depletion of natural resources and the energy costs of recycling, among other issues. “It’s almost a philosophy, a change of trend,” summarizes Rosa Garcia, director of ReZero, the former Foundation for Waste Prevention. “Now that non-reusable and non-repairable products are given priority, in the middle of a consumerist whirlpool, we advocate the opposite”, adds García. His motto is “I am Coconut”, a conscious consumer.
