The 7 levels of coworker relationship hell
Clearly written by an introvert
Level 0
You and your coworkers only talk about work. Any non-work talk remains small talk, likely about the weather.
Level 1
You and your coworkers hold conversations during work about life outside of work.
Level 2
You and your coworkers socialize during lunch or break time, outside of the office. Conversations should not be all about work. That’s a lunch meeting.
Level 3
You and your coworkers socialize outside of work hours on work days, either before or after work. Again, conversations or activities should not focus on work.
Level 4
You and your coworkers socialize outside of work hours not on work days. This may include weekend dinners or day long activities. This does not include work sponsored or suggested events such as Christmas parties or volunteer days.
Level 5
You and your coworkers plan multi-day social non-work activities.
Level 6 (Hard mode)
You and a coworker are dating.
Level 7 (Danger mode)
You and a coworker are engaged or are married.
Bonus Stage
You and a coworker reached level 6 or 7, separated, and continue working together.
