Passport Renewal When You Reside Outside the U.S.
If you are a passport holder, you would be aware of the passport renewal regulations and conditions. The United States government has given a provision to the residents of the United States & Canada to online apply for the passport renewal. If you are living outside the United States or Canada, you will have to follow different rules for passport renewal. Although, you must have latest passport photos for the new passport requirements.
The validity of a passport an adult (18 years or above) is 10 years. But if you are under that age, the validity decreases to 5 years. After the expiration date, you will have to apply for passport renewal if you are willing to travel abroad in future. To renew, a pre-decided fee of 60$ has to be given to the authorities for the procedure. If you are not residing in the US or Canada, you will have to visit the U.S. consulate in that country to renew a passport. For security reasons, the renewed passport can only be mailed to foreign embassies.
Make sure you have a copy of an up-to-date passport photo in your computer or laptop so that you can attach it while applying for passport renewal online. There is also a provision by the US government in case of emergency renewal requirements. These can be applied only if you have life or death situations. An extra fee for timely delivery can be applied in this case.
