The Deccan Education Society founded Fergusson College in Pune, which began operations in 1895. The Savitribai Phule Pune University is associated with it. This nation-building school offers a wide variety of degree programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The college provides students with special courses, vocational courses, certificate programmes, PhD programmes, and degree-granting programmes.

The college’s UG academic programmes include a B.A. in 15 courses and a B.Sc. in 13 disciplines, all from the Arts and Science faculty. It offers an M.A. in 4 arts-related subjects as opposed to an M.Sc. in 14 subjects. The college offers PhD degrees in English, Botany, Environmental Science, Electronic Science, and Physics to its students.

On the basis of merit and entry, admissions to MA and M.Sc. programmes are offered in a 50:50 ratio.

Candidates for Ph.D. admissions must have achieved passing scores on the entrance exam.
