Know your Nakshatras
Indian Vedic astrology revolves around the position of the celestial bodies like the Moon, the Sun, and different constellations or ‘Nakshatras’. The knowledge of these Vedas are acquired and inherited from great sages and seers, who laid importance on lunar constellation or the movement of Moon in different zodiac signs and constellations. Moon is considered to be the lord of all Nakshatras whereas Sun is king of all rashis.
There are 27 Nakshatras and together they comprise 360 degrees in the sky, therefore the value of each constellation is 13 degrees and 20 minutes. Each Nakshatras is further sub-divided into 4 parts known as padas or charans of 3 degrees and 20 minutes and each rashis or zodiac signs contain 9 padas. For example: The first zodiac sign Aries or ‘Mesh’ holds 30 degrees of angle containing 4 padas (13 degree 20 minutes) of the 1st star constellation ‘Ashwin’, 4 padas of 2nd star constellation of ‘Bharani’ and 1st pada of the 3rd star constellation ‘Krittika’. These are further classified under three heads of ‘Divine, Human and Demonic’.
