Depression

I am neither here nor there, nor am I here and there…

I come in an elusive and highly enigmatic form more commonly known as “Depression”.

Most people formulate stigmas and discriminatory notions about people who suffer from my insidious grasp.

They judge the classification that constitutes my label before even really beginning to analyze the different variables that make me up.

How, I ask, how can this be done without a blatant disregard for the different circumstances that compose depression?

Look, listen, hear; don’t just judge the label of “depression” by what you fear could be an amalgamation of inner desecration. No, depression is not something that should be ill perceived or misunderstood, passed over like a cloud passes over the sun…it should be something that we embrace rather than run from.

For if depression had a more empathetic and understanding audience, perhaps it wouldn’t be as pervasive, all-consuming, and destructive as it currently is.

So take a step, not a chance, and know that your objectivity towards people’s seemingly incomprehensible misery can be integral on their road to recovery.

See the tears, feel the fears, understand the person’s crippling need for a listening ear and above all know that your support, love, and kindness act like guiding beacons to dispel the darkness from their soul.

I am depression and depression is me and what I ask is for you to take a moment to re-evaluate the lies and stereotypes you have been fed and to appreciate the difficulty that people who have me must endure for their daily sanity.
