How the Conventional Method of Paying at Restaurants is Pissing Off Consumers
Consumers now have the ability to practically operate their entire lives through their cell phones. That goes to ordering food and grocery for delivery, shopping for everything they need, hailing a ride, sleeping and waking up by an alarm clock, on their phones.
But they are inaptly surprised by the realization that they still have to wait for bills at restaurants, and deal with paper receipts and credit card payments at the end of their meals.
This frustrating realization is the result of the bigger flaw in the conventional way restaurants still operate — they expect people to come in, jot down their orders, enter the orders into a Point-of-sale System (POS), give consumers a receipt at the end of their meals, take the receipt to process payment (at which point consumers are frustrated), and return with receipts and pens so consumers can leave tips before heading out.
This is a method that undermines consumers’ desire to aptly pay with the tap of a button at the end of their meals, in conjunction with the good time they’re having. This is a method that undermines consumers’ desire to eloquently pay, and move on to the next adventure without a hassle. This is a method that undermines the way consumers want to live their lives.
So at Delect, we decided to solve this problem. To enable consumers to: 1) Check-in to a restaurant when they arrive; 2) Invite their friends to join them at the table (to make it easier for restaurants to see each person who is part of the group on the restaurants’ iPad); 3) Tell the waiter what they want — just as they normally would; and 4) Pay with the tap of a button the minute they want to leave — whether they’re with themselves or with twenty other people.
Consumers use Delect to inform restaurants of their arrival via check-ins, and pay individually the minute they’re done without the hassle of dealing with receipts and credit card payments.
Delect enables consumers to dine at restaurants and use their mobile phones to pay, much like they do with many aspects of their lives.
