The Orchard Project #8: Mapmaking

August 2016 — Sebastopol, CA

This orchard is a haunted place, but I’m not afraid of it. The spirits here are good. They welcome us with a gentle wave of spindly arms.

Trees, like humans, possess a timeless, spiritual essence that persists beyond form. You cannot see it but you can feel it with your eyes.

We gravitated to several places that offered us a feeling of solace. The souls of the orchard told us where to stand.

I’m not directing this, the trees are. It’s no wonder I can’t find my way. I’m not lost, but I’ve surrendered. The orchard is allowing me to do this. These are not pictures, these are maps.
