What is Fortnite?
Based on my own experience, Fortnite has different styles of gameplay, one is more of a story mode and another is their famed battle royale. It’s not free if you wish to pursue the entire game, but for what is worth, the battle royale is free to play.
Most people are playing the battle royale anyway. Fortnite reminds me of PUBG, which is also pretty similar in genre, but there are differences between the two.
Difference between Fortnite and PUBG
1. PUBG
PUBG stands for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds and it’s a more realistic game than Fortnite. The graphics are better and resembles more towards Call of Duty or Battlefield.
You can choose to play either solo, duo or in a team of 4 (apart from custom games). Basically you start the game by parachuting down from the plane, aiming towards the area you wish to go. Bigger towns have more weapons and items, hence the competition is much bigger. You may die not long after landing as most people will aim for the bigger towns.
You can also go after the smaller towns, but you run the risk of not getting enough weapons and armor. So there are pros and cons to both.
In PUBG, the last person or team standing wins. It’s a survival game and as time passes by, you need to be inside an electric sphere. If you’re outside of it, you’ll lose health every second and eventually die.
So it gets tricky. If you run to be inside the sphere, you may get spotted by your enemies and die. You’ll easily die both ways. Hence, it’s always recommended to time yourself (between getting weapons and entering the sphere).
You can also drive vehicles in PUBG, which is something Fortnite doesn’t have.
PUBG is not a free to play game as you have to purchase the game first.
2. Fortnite
Fortnite is quite similar to PUBG’s gameplay and it’s free, as far as the battle royale mode is concerned.
That said, as mentioned above you can’t drive vehicles in Fortnite. Furthermore, Fortnite looks more anime (cartoon) and resembles Team Fortress 2 graphics.
That doesn’t mean the game sucks. It’s actually more entertaining sometimes and since it’s free, it has a bigger user base. It is currently the most streamed game on Twitch as well. On a sidenote, if you love streaming, here are some gaming microphones and keypads that you may need.
In Fortnite, you can also build walls, stairs and other structures using wood, bricks and so on. It’s something you can’t do on PUBG, since the latter is more realistic in a sense.
However, the ability to build structures is a game changer and those good at it may survive a gunfight. It’s also something that gives Fortnite an edge over PUBG.
Fortnite Review — 2018
Now, back to the topic at hand. First of all, I like both PUBG and Fortnite, so no fighting please!
Fortnite, although has more childish graphics, is actually more addictive for me. I like the battle royale concept and recently they also allowed players to compete in teams of 20. This means 5 teams of 20 people each (total 100 players).
The ability to build walls and stairs is also so crucial to the game, as most of the time your walls get destroyed by the opponents. You need to build new walls super quickly to avoid getting shot. To get materials, the recommended way is to chop trees as it gives out the most wood at the fastest time.
It also utilizes the spherical force concept where you have to be inside the circle to survive.
One thing I wished Fortnite had was vehicles. Maybe some wacky ones that could change the gameplay and make it more unpredictable.
Fortnite undergoes regular updates and new features at a rapid rate, which is a great thing. There’s much to hope for and expect in this game, so perhaps there’ll be even better features in the future.
In a nutshell
Fortnite is an amazing game and the best part is that it’s free. Although you can buy in-game items, they don’t affect the gameplay at all. You don’t need to buy items to win.
