My mom mom’s name was Sarah. I only remembered her first name yesterday. I had to google her obituary. I do remember her grinning wide enough to see her gums just like Celie’s after Shug Avery gave her a smiling lesson. My mom mom certainly smoked like Shug and wore belted sweaters that never stayed put.

My mom mom lived in an institution most of my life.
