Daily Stoic Lesson: What’s In Your Power

I almost got in a car crash today. One person’s quick action coupled with my bad luck almost put me in a very terrible situation. Thankfully because of my good motor skills, I avoided having a collision.

In life, bad things happen. Your split-second response could very well mean the difference between life and death. Although tough situations can’t be avoided outright, they can be contained. By wisely choosing how you respond to situations as they arise, you can keep a minor inconvenience from turning into a major catastrophe.

I’m reminded of the words of the great Stoic philosopher, Epictetus: “Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.”
