Daily Bread: Part Two
32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
John 6:32-35
The daily bread spoken of yesterday is not solely about provision. But is also a promise of life in Christ. To have daily bread is to receive the bread from heaven, true bread.
Life eternal.
This is the promise Christ brings to us — ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst,’ and is extended a few verses later…
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
John 6:40
…to a promise of life with Him where there is no hardship, no hunger, thirst, pain, or worry. A fullness of life.
To be with Christ now in prayer and belief— daily bread — means to understand that this life is just temporary. That when He died on the cross He fulfilled the death that we deserved, He took our place. And when Christ was resurrected, He made good on His promise that life is not temporary but eternal.
So to pray and believe daily in Christ is to commune with Him, and to commune with Him is to proclaim Him, and to proclaim Him is to work and wait in this hope daily.
Daily bread.
