Eugenio Derbez

Eugenio González Derbez, a Mexican actor, comedian, and director, was born on September 2, 1961. He was born and reared in Mexico City, where he showed an early interest in acting, landing his first appearances as extras in soap operas at the age of twelve.

He went on to the Mexican Film Institute and the Centro de Educacion Artistica to further his education before obtaining his first television role in the comedy series Cachn Cachn Ra Ra! Derbez made his directorial debut in 1997 with No Tengo Madre, a Mexican soap opera.

Eugenio Derbez made his debut as a producer with the sitcom XHDRBZ, which he co-created with Florinda Meza in 2002. Derbez also co-created, co-directed, and featured in the family sitcom La Familia P. Luche in 2002, which helped him earn even more popularity in the Mexican and Latin communities.

Derbez starred in a number of American films and television programs in the early 2010s, including Jack and Jill, Girl in Progress, Rob!, and Miracles from Heaven.

Derbez has appeared in animated films such as The Book of Life and The Angry Birds Movie 2 in addition to live-action appearances. Dr. Dolittle, Mulan, 102 Dalmatians, the Shrek trilogy, Dr. Dolittle 2, Mulan 2, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and many other characters in Spanish adaptations of American films were dubbed by Derbez.

His feature film Instructions Not Included, which he directed, co-wrote, and starred in, became the most successful Spanish-language picture in the United States and around the world, breaking multiple box-office records and grossing over $100 million worldwide.

Derbez also starred opposite Salma Hayek and Kristen Bell in the Lionsgate/ Pantelion film How to Be a Latin Lover and in the Paramount picture Dora and the Lost City of Gold. In 2021, he starred in the Academy Award-winning Apple TV+ film CODA, which earned him the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, along with the rest of the cast.

Derbez is married to Alessandra Rosaldo and has four children: comedic actress Aislinn Derbez, actor and singer Vadhir Derbez, actor Jose Eduardo Derbez, and Aitana Derbez. He lives in Los Angeles.

Along with Aislinn’s then-husband Mauricio Ochmann and their daughter Kailani, they starred in the documentary comedy television series De Viaje con Los Derbez. Derbez has a net worth of $30 million.
