Setting Godaddy Domain for Firebase Hosting

It’s been long time since I posted my last article here in Medium. Here is my latest publication, based on simple problem I faced when setting up my custom domain that I’ve recently bought from Godaddy. I thought it will be a walk in the park, as always when I set up custom domain for my personal website. Turns out, I forget simple rule from Godaddy service

The TXT Record

If you follow the Firebase console to set up custom domain, it will first ask you to verify the domain by adding TXT record, as shown in below picture.

The domain is fictional.

It will show you to put the domain name in the host field. It’s wrong. For Godaddy, you should put @ instead. I put the domain name in it, and waited until 2 days (48 hour, as stated in Godaddy help page), and nothing happens.

So, don’t waste your time.

The A Record

After successfully verify your domain, you need to add two A records in your registrar. The Firebase instruction will be like this:

Image for post
Image for post
The domain is real, hahaha

That’s also wrong, for Godaddy. You should just put www in the host field.

So, don’t waste your time.

That’s it. A simple tip, but I it helps someone out there.
