The Smoke...It Rises

Every day, as I watched him,
I wondered if he could ever leave
This thing that he inhaled,
Didn't it consume his every breath?

As I kept thinking, I noticed
The smoke, it rises

His eyes had love in abundance,
But remorse was never far away
I wish it were different, he added
'Can you see me any different?'
