#100daysofpublishing Day 10

In reality, I spent most of the day collating

I have spent the last few workdays finishing up an application for a multi-year operating grant from the Ontario Arts Council. This is one of the largest single sources of revenue for the magazine, so it’s important that it’s done, and done well. I did manage to get the application in before the deadline, and I checked and re-checked everything. I even problem-solved around the fact that our office printer decided to stop working just when I needed to print six copies of a 30-page document (or rather, I remembered we had an extra printer in storage and set it up in the middle of an editors’ meeting, quite rudely). I’d love to write a long essay on why government grants are so important to the Canadian publishing industry (and why they’re a blessing and a problem), but as fascinating as that is, I’m beat. But don’t worry, I have lots of regular day-to-day work to catch up on, so there will be plenty to tell you about. I haven’t even been keeping up with other news, but hopefully Katharine’s Viner’s Instagram post as the The Guardian’s new editor-in-chief is a sign that there’s more on the way!
