You may have heard the hype: Intermittent fasting is being hailed as the secret to weight loss.

But What Is Reality?

Lead researcher Satchin Panda says that while there is strong scientific evidence to show the benefits of intermittent fasting, it is neither a quick fix nor a foolproof solution.

Panda, a professor of circadian rhythm biology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California, has spent his career studying complex biochemical processes in the human body.

Their studies in mice and humans seem to indicate that intermittent fasting can benefit human health in a number of ways, including weight loss.

Before we get into the science, let’s make one thing clear:

There is no one-size-fits-all method for intermittent fasting.

If you google it you will find a list of options, each with its own advocate.

There is a 5:2 diet where you eat very few calories (between 500 and 600 calories) two days a week, followed by five days of normal eating.

Or there is alternate fasting, meaning eating normally one day and eating nothing or…
