The underlying value of batteries is in that ‘lighting up’ of the devices you mention. And I don’t completely agree that home batteries are a commodity. Similar to how listening to music from your phone became aspirational and sexy (remember those ads with the dark silhouette and white headphones?), lighting your home/devices with a beautifully designed ‘home’ accessory can make people feel sexy smart and tech savvy/forward.

I confess to a personal bias here (and in the original article) and, like a few of my friends, have a connected home with solar panels etc. The one accessory that’s missing right now is a beautifully designed battery… And Apple could easily sell one to complement every other Apple product I own in my home.
