Driver’s licenseless world is coming.

For my First semester assignment will be about “The self-driving car will be with us, but are we going to buy it?”. Many of us when we were children, we dreamed about a robot world like i, ROBOT(movie, 2004). Especially driver-less car in this movie attract other people’s and my attention. Imagine After you work hard, you should drive back to home through heavy traffic. You cannot text to someone, Facebook, and sleep while you are driving, but with self-driving car you could do whatever you want while you are driving. Is it still way into future? It is almost ready to go.

In driver-less car market, Many car companies and Google are in competition. In expert’s eye this will be a long journey to be on sale, because of Artificial Intelligence could not react all kinds of situation. But some others opinion is in 2020 10 million driver-less cars will be on the road. Still there are so many debates are going on. Many people who against the driver-less car said “We cannot trust computer, and programmers as well”. What if they made some errors such as misplacing a decimal point, it causes incorrect behavior on the machine part, and it is easy to be a target of the hackers. If more than 80% of driver-less cars on the road, and then car accident happens how could find out whose fault is it. Those kind of things could be happened for the future. The other side which is google said “Most dangerous thing on the road is a human driver”. People sometimes against the law such as over-speed on the highway, DUI, doze off while driving, and also people who cannot drive a car such as elder people and someone who has disability can driver a car. There is no right answer for this, but i got my own idea.

I strongly agree with what google said. People always make a mistake and many people died from drink-drive, careless-drive, and speeding. People. According to NHTSA(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), In 2014 more than 30,000 people died from car crash, and more than million people injured from the car accident. With a self-driving car, there is no such a thing like those. Computer does not drink, no blind-spot, no speeding at all. And for the convenience matter, we could not waste of time to focus on drive. There is always heavy traffic in the morning and night in San Francisco. Imagine we could read a book in the car, and watching a TV programs, and everything you want to do while you are stuck in the heavy traffic. Many people worried about computer may causes an error, but we could make a back up plans. Normally when we set up our computer, we have some partitions. Just in case of system failure, our computer data is less likely to be affected. Same approach to the driver-less car. We could set up multiple systems to backup system. Nobody knows what happens in the future, but I convince that self-driving car will reduce a car crash or accident happens.

Feb. 10. 2016 The government finally decided computers that control cars of the future can be considered drivers just like humans, the federal government’s highway safety agency. For this new policy, many car companies will invest money and develop the A.I technology. As many as car companies join to make driver-less car will decrease the errors. There are still remain a lot of works to move forward. According to google’s monthly report, over the 300 million miles tested in 2015, 341 disengagements(Where safe operation of the vehicle requires control by the driver)happened, and self-driving car caught by police officer going too slowly. Mostly disengagement happens(304 out of 341) on the street, that means driver-less car still need to be improved when drive on the central complex, but the mile per disengagement happens ratio getting decrease year by year. Someday soon, we could see the driver-less car on the road. For the first day of release self-driving car on commercial, it will not be affordable, but someday soon the price will be decreased. I am asking you “If the price is affordable, are you not going to buy it?” There are a lot of benefits to use a self-driving car. Here is chance to not waste of your time, no more stress to drive your car, and irksome parking as well.
