In terms of professional men’s golf, the United States Golf Association takes pride in having the most difficult test.

The 123rd U.S. Open’s opening round on Thursday at Los Angeles Country Club resembled more of a practising round.

A round of 62 in the US Open hasn’t occurred in 122 years. On Thursday, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele both finished it in under 30 minutes. Justin Thomas made nine birdies and one eagle at Erin Hills in Wisconsin in 2017 before Justin Fowler became the first player in U.S. Open history to make ten birdies in a single round.

The first-round scoring average was 71.38, the lowest for a U.S. Open opening round in the previous 90 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The LACC’s North Course is a par-70 layout. The lowest first-round scoring average ever recorded occurred in 1993 at Baltusrol in Springfield Township, New Jersey, at 72.29.

There were two 64s, two 65s, seven 67s, and eleven 68s in addition to the two records. In the 1980s, there were no scores. No golfer shot lower than 79 in either the first or second round of the US Open this year, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
