Welcome to my #OpenCalendar
About two weeks ago, I did something.
It came after a lot of procrastination — sort of like writing my first Medium post. But after getting a dose of sudden inspiration, I knew what had to be done.
It was time to open my calendar.
The concept is simple. Instead of hoarding my time in a silo, I offer it freely to everyone on my mailing list — close to 12,000 people. Working via Calendly, I give anyone on my list the chance to book a 30-minute call with me, on every day of the week between 11 AM — 6 PM. It’s as simple as clicking a link, booking a time, and jumping on the phone.
I announced the initiative about two weeks ago, and the results were immediate. My days filled up in minutes, and now my weeks fill up in hours. Every day, I look forward to upwards of 10 calls, approaching a total of 50 meetings per week.
The meetings have opened opportunities, expedited deals, and expanded my network — all in less than a month. Not only is it exciting, but quite frankly, it’s a lot of fun to spend my day meeting so many interesting and engaging people, often ending the call with a way to do business together.
I’ve been complimented for pioneering this approach, but really, the Silicon Valley community as a whole deserves the real credit. From the time my startup journey began in the Bay Area, I’ve been amazed by how many people have a pay-it-forward attitude, giving help, advice, and encouragement freely. What I offer is merely a continuation of the culture that has inspired me to do so much.
If it’s worked for me, chances are it can work for you. In fact, if you want to get really meta, you can book a time with me to talk about how to make your own #OpenCalendar.
I’m always here to help.
