1920s Ad a Look Back at Fraser Valley Passenger Rail

From 1890 to 1958, the BC Electric Railway operated a passenger service on the interurban rail line, all the way to Chilliwack. The above advertisement from the 1920s is a fun reminder of a time when the Valley had a rail alternative to personal vehicles.

By the 1950s, cars had become our final answer to all Fraser Valley transportation, and passenger rail was discontinued. Today, our highways are chronically congested, and the Fraser Valley desperately needs rail service.

The old interurban corridor is still being used for freight today; however, a new proposal to reactivate the line for passenger use, a public right-of-way preserved in the master agreement, is underway!
