Is B.Ed essential for a teaching profession?

B. Ed (Bachelor of Education) is a degree programme in teaching which makes you eligible to teach a class from 6th to 12th. The only eligibility to pursue B.Ed is graduation is with a minimum of 50% from any UGC approved university.

One should have a B.Ed degree if you intend teaching in Indian schools. Although there are no set patterns or any uniformity in the requisite educational qualifications for the candidates applying for a teacher’s job, still B. Ed is a mandatory qualification required for teaching in all Government Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Army/Airforce Schools. In fact, many CBSE/ICSE private schools prefer only B.Ed qualified teachers and do not entertain the non B.Ed teachers at all. Even if the hiring happens, there is a large difference in the salary scale of the ones who are B.Ed qualified. Hence, if you have to work as a teacher in a school it’s advisable to acquire a B.Ed degree.

If you have a teaching qualification or if you want to pursue a career as a teacher, then it is highly recommended to move forward and join a course on Bachelor of Education. Nowadays, B. Ed degree is considered compulsory for the candidates who want to take teaching as their profession. Students from any stream can opt for a Bachelor degree even if you are art or a science graduate.
