Maybe There is More than Nightmares, Maybe Dreams Do Happen

Shana sat in the cafeteria with her colleague Claire.

“What if there was a way to control nightmares, to control what happens when you’re asleep. What if past the nightmares, there are dreams?”

Claire sat in front of Shana in silence, eating.

Shana knew she wouldn’t get a response from Claire on a “what-if” question, but sometimes she couldn’t help but ask, and Claire was the person she felt…well the person she saw most often.

“That was a good lunch, see you tomorrow”, Claire said as she picked up her tray and walked away.

As Shana quietly finished her lunch, she recalled her 8th birthday. She had asked for only 1 present, a Dream.

Staring blankly at her daughter, Mrs. Allen only said four words “Dreams do not exist”.

She got an electronic study guide that year.

In a world where the desire to be efficient has trumped the experience of creativity and dreaming, one woman questions her reality.
