What is DOS attack and DDOS attack

The simply meaning of the DOS attack is denial-of-service attack. DDOS attack is Distributed denial-of-service attack. It is same the DOS but distributed.

DOS attack

In DOS attack, There is a one attacker(client) usually and he attack the target(Server) by sending traffic continuously maybe in multiple protocols or same protocol. Then the server can’t stand anymore because it’s flooded traffic and It can’t serve goes down. When real client want to get some service from that server, It can’t reach to that.

this type of attack, the target can easily eliminate the attacker by blocking.

DDOS attack

In DDOS attack, The attacker recruit bots. the easiest way they usually do that by giving a crack software. These attackers finding the people’s most wanted software and release a creak version

They modified the source of the software and launch it as a free. If we install that software, Then our computer become a bot and they can control it. There is a commanding server owned the attacker and once you install that software, you get registered in that server. If thousands of or millions of people install those creak software and registered in that server(we called this type of network as botnet).

When attacker want to attack some server. He send a command to those bots using commanding server (this time, this target send requests). Everyone get this message and if they in online, they send the traffic to that mentioned target server. The server can’t handle all traffic in same time and it goes down.

The server can’t block all these traffic, because they come from different countries different region.

How to identify if your computer became a bot/zombie

If without your acknowledge sometimes you can see computer’s fan running, processor is consuming, memory is low. Probably someone is controlling your computer as a bot. You can loose your data specially if you have a limited internet data capacity.

How to prevent

It can be come as a creak software, link came from email, or malware if you click or install. Then it will registered with a commanding server. To prevent that,

  • Don’t use creak software
  • Don’t click links come from unrecognized sources
  • Don’t click messages that come announcing some offers.
  • Don’t install untrusted software.
  • Use virus guard or malware guards
