We define the exceptional child as a child who differs from the average or normal child in:
(1) mental characteristics.
(2) sensory abilities.

(3) communication abilities.

(4) behavior and emotional development
(5) physical characteristics

The term exceptional child may mean very different things in education,in psychology,or in other disciplines. In education,we group children of like characteristics for instructional purpose s.For example, we put six years old in the first grade. In the same way reason, and the same reason,we creat subgroups of exceptional children. The following grouping are typical:

(1) Intellectual differences, including children who are Intellectually superior and children who are slow to learn.
(2) communication differences including children with learning disabilities or speech and language impairments.

(3) sensory deference, including children with auditory or visual impairments.
(4) behaviour al differences, including children who are emotionally disturbed or socially maladjusted.

(5) multiple and sever handicapping condition, including children with combinations of impairments (cerebral palsy and mental retardation; deafness and blindness).

When we discussing the child as learner,we believe that it,s important to paint a complete portrait of the child, including the social and familial context in which he or she lives.
