#88 Social media: 2 woke 4 me
How Trump ruined Facebook (and possibly, maybe justified Twitter’s existence)

I checked Facebook this morning, as I do right when I wake up, after breakfast, whenever I’m stuck in rush hour traffic, right when I’m done drinking my first cup of coffee at work, and pretty much every other waking moment of the day when I should be doing something else totally and unequivocally more important.
You get the point.
There, on social media, I learned that President Donald J. “Cheeto Bandito” Trump had instigated a ban on transgendered people serving in the military. It was announced on the news, by my friends and on the pages of famous people I follow. Twitter was practically blowing up over it, 144 characters at a time.
There was no escape. Even on Reddit, communities centered around news, politics, LGBTQ issues and the military were sending posts to the front page of my feed.
And I love it. I love that I’m friends with people, and am following personalities, who have made it a personal quest to highlight ever backhanded, hypocritical thing Trump has done.
But at the same time, those “woke” posts about Trump drowned out the Nihilist Memes, Super Deluxe live streams and random patriotic silliness I’m used to seeing on social media. What I’m saying is, Trump is ruining social media.
I’m not going to fault my friends for being up in arms about Trump, but I am going to pick a bone with the dude for consistently doing things he tweeted he wasn’t going to do while campaigning against Hillary.
And while we’re on that note, I cannot believe that Twitter’s legitimacy as a social media platform is being bolstered by the geriatric ramblings of a man who just so happens to also be POTUS. I mean, we’re all just on Twitter to see what he’ll say next, right?
