NO DRAMA: EXPOSE / MVMNT FOCUS — PURPLEHAUS MUSIC // B SIDE — SHADOWBOX MVMNT / EXPOSE
On the other side of this interactive piece, is a complimentary engagement entitled Solardrive: Artist Focus — Purplehaus Music (A//Side). The B//Side delivers a personal “fan-based post” if you will, on art and the evolution of different systems of music that we dig at Shadowbox. This dynamic mode that we are posting about is orchestrated by Record Producer/DJ Balthazar Getty, in conjunction with his sub-groups (i.e. The Wow, Ringside, Abstrakto, and so forth — links and info included). Let’s not forget to mention the roster within the drive, of heterogeneous talent (i.e. Ko The Legend, Rain Phoenix, Asdru Sierra, TC, to name a few) that we admire. To compliment much of what was discussed in our commendatory article on the other side, this deliverance heads into a different direction. This B//Side rides the cornerstone of sound and sight, and displays a look/listen at some the tracks/content we are fond of. Purplehaus is a ‘Musical MVMNT’ everyone — we suggest you have a listen if you haven’t already.
At the core of the A//Side is an abridged version of our admiration for this expressive bunch, with a soft intent to note the mission on behalf of the Shadowbox Network. This isn’t about plugs, yet correlative value and similar interests that make the world a better place in our viewpoint. Our mission, (as does that of albums like Solardrive by Purplehaus Music in our opinion) stands kindred to that of many “shared” & collaborative movements (and economies) evolving and disrupting traditional markets across multi-media markets worldwide. We respect the artists and entrepreneurs out there that have made their name in the collaborative marketplace (i.e. @Uber, @kickstarter, @Postmates, @Airbnb to name a few) growing every second and helping people socially achieve, get funded, curate, meet, hook up, become themselves, and on occasion — CREATE.
Like a remix — this new rise in musical cohesion shifts to a tempo that equally speaks to an ascent via independence, individuality, and digital isolation. These “tempos” through technical and societal reach routinely get remixed by creatives in different industries, fighting off the flow of isolation, and keeping the doors open for collision through imaginative meters. An album called Solardrive (Purplehaus Music — 2013) in our eyes is one of our generation’s most significant albums as it defines the “shared environment” in reach — by which artists of all measures can approach, to collaboratively explore, gain, promote, and influence.
From here it’s a pleasure to dissect the timelines we see, between the motion into present day, and the time travel back to the future of 2004–2005, where the internet enabled us to find that music that wasn’t always so easy to find when you wanted it “on demand”. During the Solardrive segment below, via the Purplehaus Youtube Channel — Mr. Getty, alongside Ms. Phoenix briefly explains his musical/theatrical upbringing, and compares the “gratification” and reward system in play between the two. They talk about the romance between ill beats and vocals, a chemistry that seems to synchronize with an effort to harmonize, when handled correctly. Per the Youtube segment, you realize that Mr. Getty started his music career early, has been at it a long time, and it’s our pleasure to note the achievements and drive more fans. Let’s talk about Ringside…
RINGSIDE (FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE VISIT OFFERED LINKS &; PURPLEHAUS MUSIC) https://www.facebook.com/RINGSIDEmusic1 / @PurplehausMusic
Ringside is an indie rock band from Hollywood, CA. Their style delivered simply manifested a unique “indie” genre that focused on a mixture of pop/rock with electronica, (and of course…sick beats). The entire band has consisted of Scott Thomas, (vocals, guitar, and keyboard), Kirk Hellie (guitarist), Sandy Chila (live drums), Max Allyn (live keys), and Balthazar Getty, who delivers his multi-faceted approach as a label head / producer / beat maker.
Ringside offered a first chance to actually listen to what Mr. Getty was getting into as a musician and producer. After hearing some of the first sounds, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but i liked it. It was eccentric and fun to listen to. Mr. Thomas serves up a variance of hard hitting vocals, providing accolades alongside Mr. Getty’s advance to rhythm, rhyme, and reason. From here this duo proceeds to produce and compose suitably to make it all jive.
Approaching the Ringside band for the first time — I must say that where artist publicity, marketing, and branding is concerned, when I saw a photo set from one their first campaigns and album promotions, I was driven to want to hear, simply by what the picturesque vibe entailed. Their promos held the setting of a high school / prep-rally / school bus / ….w/ “reporter and football star” mentality.
The “homecoming” imagery was accompanied by alternative shots that expressed the depiction of a raw and artistically aggressive duo. Hooded up, laced sneaks to leather, and don’t forget the prop that sold me — beat machines and gear — these images got me hyped. All of the pictures can be found here: (www.last.fm/Ringside). The shots with the SP12OO simply fired me up like no image I had seen in a very long time…
After experiencing what was available through the web to listen to, then on to the Lost Days Album, and the ability to check some of their intimate live sets online, they became one of those consistent bands to watch, track, and enjoy in 2005–2008 and beyond.

SOLARDRIVE & PURPLEHAUS MUSIC
SOLARDRIVE (FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE VISIT OFFERED LINKS & PURPLEHAUS MUSIC) www.purplehausmusic.com / @Purplehausmusic
Briefly discussed in our A//Side Piece — Solardrive is a nine-track LP. My research and understanding mentions influence from Massive Attack (@MassiveAttackUK), Tricky (@KnowleWestboy) and Portishead (@Portisheadinfo). In my world, if somebody says that, then musically they’re just going to create awesome melody, that is my opinion. Mr. Getty takes it a step further with his approach as a record producer. Like a scientist — he grabs a test-tube and fills it with the circulation of artistic measures. His hypotheses (for the sake of discussion) are tested in an impromptu fashion, all of by which brings forth the energy of mind blowing collision. Solardrive thrives in the diversity by which makes an album complete, and therefore must never go unseen and/or unheard. I trip hard to Solardrive.
With every jam on this track filled “episodic” masterpiece (no pun intended) — to me every song comes across as being its own short story, within a book of nine amazing tales. The sophistication behind Solardive becomes clear when you listen. Whether he means to or not, as a record producer — Balthazar Getty assures that his tracks creatively rep a facet of musical influence generated through each day, of each week, of each month of each year, over the past 2 decades and beyond. Listen to “Lovely” then go over to “Monster” and back around to raw/organic “Be Alright” and watch the rhythm maintain “Future / Classic” (the term we love to use) tactic to music production. This synthesized system, to bring it all together with a lot of influential “drop”……it seems to be fixed within the Purplehaus regiment. They deserve props in my book.
And yes, hence the title of this B//SIDE project…No Drama a track (Feat: TC & Kevin Hicks — @MrHicksMusic) is one of the jams that grabbed my attention fast. That’s when it hit the fan — in my headphones was a new album, and I went so fucking deep on that track all day every day — then did the same with every other track — still do — timeless — where do you wanna go? Solardrive will take you there. When I saw they had put vocals on a beat by which my son and I played on rotation each day through Vimeo (No Drama — Extended Instrumental — 6:24Min)….it was just so on.
From here, it all becomes an acidic blur of so much eccentric music at once…more music had arrived…Mr. Getty came dropping bombs and they keep coming in all flashbacks and forwards — most recently with projects The Wow and alternative & diversified artists/projects like Ko the Legend, Abstrakto, Rain Phoenix, and Mr. Hicks. And let’s not forget to mention touring — (as A//Side mentions my 3 misfires by which I missed to see this crew live, I ain’t letting that happen again…I love what they’re doing — make sure to check in with their social media to see who’s spinning/performing, where, and when).

We want to thank many of these artists for acknowledging the support online. It’s not what we initially strive for, but as fans it feels fucking radical and gets us pumped. I’ll leave it here before sharing more art. After creating this piece, as a fan — I think I’ve read and heard a strong portion of the stories that describe the infrastructure, as to how the Solardrive album got created. I thank this group of artists for sharing through really “cool to watch” bits like the Youtube clip below, Press, and Alternative Media resources that are popular hubs for music and social networking. What’s evident and you can hear it, is the deep and devoted dedication to making this a great album. The impromptu — yet organic and true — relations surrounding this album foster confident / collaborative music. From what I’ve read and seen — we have vocals and beats falling in love at first sight, there is jumping on tracks with allies, friends and family giving you a gift to support your art, from there if you got an agenda and a few believers, it’s just so on. It’s so fucking on…………………
THE WOW (FULL BIO ON KO THE LEGEND CAN BE FOUND VIA THE PROVIDED LINKS / PURPLEHAUS MUSIC) www.purplehausmusic.com / @PurplehausMusic
The Wow is comprised of rapper KO the Legend and producer/beat-maker Balthazar Getty. The Los Angeles-based duo boasts a traditional MC / DJ Duo, but in a non-traditional format. By that we speak of the diversity and unique deliverance brought forth by The Wow, and the power behind the team to extend this duo into collaborations with some of the finest artists around. Further noted in our conclusion, but growing up on the Wu-Tang Clan, having the privilege to see them live…and being a longtime fan and supporter of Wu Tang Member / Hip Hop Legend Method Man (@methodman) — when I saw that The Wow had dropped the single Masterpiece, with him on the track, the enthusiasm I experienced was unmatchable. I’ll never forget going to Tower Records and getting Tical (Def Jam Records — 1994) the day it came out. I remember bumping “P.L.O. Style” on full blast….goosebumps.
What The Wow does really well, (under the orchestration and production of Mr. Getty, Ko the Legend, and Purplehaus Records) is producing music that dynamically explores the “crossroads” that intersect across early — late ’80s / 90’s (Millennial) Hip-Hop, and where the present day (iGeneration) fan / artist seems to be moving. I love the vocal combo between Method Man and Ko the Legend on Masterpiece. More info coming soon!
Before concluding and returning with more information on our interactive C//Side Fan Based piece on Purplehaus Music, we would like to offer more details on some of artists listed below, and throughout this piece. we want to drop some social and artistic links for enjoyment.
RAIN PHOENIX (FULL BIO ON RAIN PHOENIX CAN BE FOUND VIA THE PROVIDED LINKS / PURPLEHAUS MUSIC) papercranesmusic.com / @RainJPhoenix
Please check out the track Monster by Rain Phoenix / Solardrive below. It is simply powerful, beautiful, and brave. That’s my impression. Like a song you have never heard before, nor will ever hear again, pay attention to the connectivity between the vocals and beats….its synthesis at its finest. Monster can be downloaded via iTunes or engaged per the provided links and clips.

Let’s flashback to the 7th grade as we did on the A//Side, since then, as an avid art/music junkie, you bet I continued following Mr. Getty’s musical / theatrical endeavors since encountering the motion picture Lord of the Flies back when i was….a seventh grader. What I think essentially has gotten me “psyched” and “excited” about his work, is that it’s all encompassed in a daring, expressive, authentic, and talented style, by which is unique, raw, and genuine.
He shares influence with fans like us, while showing true dedication and appreciation per the crafts he selects to professionally engage..At a young age, in my view, where so many youngsters out there are either too ashamed, or too afraid to do so, I see someone one who took on the ability to artistically reveal, without any reservations. That form of humbled confidence and styled persona is what got me hyped from the start, and now the art simply speaks for itself.
I’ve been blessed to grow up on music. This article, for the most part, is about music…….Born and raised in Mill Valley, CA — I watched icons like Bill Graham role in the lane next to us on the way to 1st Grade. My friends had parents that were “rock stars”…point blank. If some of these community members weren’t “rock stars”….they were writing for Spin or Rolling Stonethey were running historical venues like the Sweetwater, telling us stories of what it was like to till dawn with Ry Cooder, Jerry Garcia, Steve Ray Vaughn till 4am. At the time, we were like: “What about Prince, The Fat Boys, Yaz, Depeche Mode, and RUN-DMC, did you hang with them too?” ……We learned eventually.
To grow in an environment on the level, a local family, with two great sons I attended school, and grew up with, were responsible for building the Maritime Hall in San Francisco, where we fortunate to grow up catching Wu Tang, OutKast, Pharcyde, and Redman (among other Icons — including Reggae Artists like no other) early on. We were blessed. To date — grabbing a run on at least 20 Grateful Dead shows through junior and senior year is memorable…as is our lifetime run of at least 20+ Live Beastie Boy sets…..there was always an adolescent focus on scraping tickets to Ice Cube, Primus, Erasure, Mobb Deep, Violent Femmes, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Rage Against the Machine, etc. etc….and we spent many nights at Mr. Graham’s Civic Center (Bill Graham Civic Auditorium) of course, where we could take so much of this love for music to another level.
I could speak for days…but the point being is….I take music very seriously. At Shadowbox, as a unified network built and coded for artists to work, earn, and share on, we take every measure very seriously…and respect each artist out there taking every step they can (hopefully starting at a very young age) to navigate their passions…In these times, through the saturation of self promotion / distribution, it seems to be an absurd notion that an artist would stand out, simply through fantastic music. To us, this music stands out, and it is our honor to spread the word on a platform that we built with our own two hands, similar to the determination and construction taken on by Mr. Getty when producing Solardrive.
If you read the A//Side, I spoke of a moment in time, by which I had an opportunity at an amazing show, to spread the word on behalf of my fan-based passion for Solardrive & Purplehaus Music, with some flyers I made. With 30 Seconds to Mars and Jared Leto (@JaredLeto / @30SECONDSTOMARS) before us — taking to an open forum interview at a Live 105.3 event in Mountain View, CA. With that flyer in the air, and astonishing reference from Jared Leto (an icon) stepping to the mic and stating “Check it out….it’s my buddy Balthazar”….pointing to my flyer..there was silence….everyone looking at me………………
We might be die-hards but we’re human, and at that moment — I folded, I choked…the pressure…I didn’t want to mess up! But with good intentions of course I kept promoting fan to fan, and now before you…..I am making it up…I am taking my passion for this music to the “best and worst gift ever given to mankind”….the internet…I am going as deep as I can by spreading the word with my own voice and platform. 10,000,000 new Purplehaus fans or bust…..just kidding….like we say here at Shadowbox….1 fan = 10,000,000 strong………………
