I’m a Full-Time Adventure Cat. Here’s How It All Started!

The volunteers who rescued me believe I was born to a Georgia family who did not want me. This family discarded me among a colony of feral felines the night before Georgia’s first winter freeze in 2016. I survived only because the volunteers noticed me on their rounds before the freeze.

My Unlikely Adoption

Around this time, the volunteers received a strange request from a young lady in Atlanta. She was looking specifically for a black cat — nothing else. Black cats have notoriously low adoption rates, and semi-feral kitties, even lower.

Yet, this young missus took one look at me, cuddled me in her bosom. And, to the great surprise of the volunteers, took me home.

This was the last car ride I took for 4 years. During this time, I became attached to my missus and her penchant for travel distressed me greatly.

My First RV Trip

One day, the missus picked me up, put me in a cage, and took me to the vet. I howled all the way there and howled all the way back. How dare she! Grandma exchanged worried looks with my missus and told her, “I don’t think this is going to work.”

A week later, I learned what “this” was. I was suddenly in the FJ Cruiser, driving with missus, grandma, and grandpa, from Georgia to Nevada. We camped in missus’s brand-new travel trailer in-between.

Grandma and grandpa have long returned home. But, missus and I have been on a rather long trip ever since! Since traveling from Georgia to Nevada, we’ve gone from Southern California to Montana … and from Wyoming to Mexico.

My First Overlanding Trip

Half a year into RVing, my missus discovered tent camping. One day, I woke up to her packing her bags for the third week in a row to go off on another adventure without me.

I started to cry. Usually, this touches missus deeply. Instead, she began to laugh hysterically. Why? Because she knew something I didn’t! She was taking me tent camping and she was expecting the showdown of a lifetime.

I won’t lie. I behaved badly on the car ride. She wanted to get me comfortable with the harness and leash, but I didn’t like not having my carrier.

Five minutes into the eight-hour drive from Mexico to New Mexico, she had to pull over and give it back. It’s mine and I like it — thank you very much!

When we arrived in New Mexico, missus waited nervously for me to voice my utter confusion about the absence of the RV. But, not me! I wanted to explore and, oh, what a fun time it was in the rooftop tent! 🙀⛺

The Adventure Ahead

Now, I get to join my missus when she goes overlanding. Where she goes, I go. Well… except on a leash. Or in the kayak. Or on the paddleboard. But, who knows? I’ve come this far already!

Hopefully, my story shows that the best kitty to go adventuring with is the one you already have.
