With the advent of Face ID on iPhone, we have gotten so used to seamlessly unlocking iPhones.

Unfortunately in current times wearing masks has become a norm. This has made unlocking your iPhone using Face ID in public places so cumbersome. Especially, if you are like me who has grocery lists on your phone. Each time I want to check something off, I have to unlock the phone by punching in the passcode. Uggh.

But now you can unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch if you are wearing Mask or if your face is partially covered.

How to turn on unlock your iPhone with Apple Watch

  1. Go to Settings App.
  2. Tap on FaceID and Passcode. (Or you can search in the settings app by scrolling down)
  3. Confirm your passcode.
  4. Scroll down to see Unlock phone with your Apple Watch. Turn on. It might ask you to turn Wrist detection on, if not already so.

What you need

You will need to be on iPhone with Face ID feature with iOS 14.5 or later and Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 7.4 or later. Also, you will need to have the passcode turned on Apple Watch along with the Wrist detection turned on.

Once you enable about setting if your face is partially covered, Apple Watch automatically unlocks your iPhone.
