Dunkirk
Spray of ocean water
clumps of sand with rags of uniforms
Air of desperate hope
Sirens and mute cries
Dunkirk was a time in dark desolation
A place we have all known
Dunkirk was hope on the edge of tipping over
A misstep on faith slipping
One wish of survival
A collective emergency
Souls lost
Souls saved
To say how Dunkirk was,I needed verse. Steeped in emotional detail, each carefully crafted frame transported me there.
The deliberate penury of dialogue, the haunting yet light background score by Hans Zimmer is the perfect canvas for the movie.
My favorites were Tommy, the young resourceful British soldier played by Fionn Whitehead and the galant Farrier played by Tom Hardy.
If Dunkirk is something, it is above all else a testimony on Nolan -it is Nolan doing what Nolan does best.
