Another Six (6) guidelines for moving up in your career (Tips 7–12)

1. Put your time in: Everyone starts out doing grunt work till trust is proven

2. Don’t talk badly about the company or about your boss

3. Take control of your relationship with your boss and team members

4. Find a mentor and manage the relationship strategically

5. Join a professional body and build your network

6. Embrace change and reflect on what you are learning daily

Success is something which require an immense passion, patience, continuous hard work, consistency, most importantly the behavior, personality, etiquette and the way you represent and get recognized with your hardship.

We will find lot of people who get credit doing much less hard work than us. People handling and public speaking skills are very important to prove our efforts.

I called one of my senior Sir Muhammad Zahid, Operational Manager, ABB Lahore, Pakistan.

He had joined ABB, soon after his graduation and almost after 13 years of employment he was appointed as an operational Manager. Discoursing about the six guidelines for a successful sustainable career he said, when I joined, I had faced lots of obstruction, I used to get back to home very late as I was usually given lots of works and seniors also assigned an extra work but I used to thought always that industries require an experience person, because they know he had gone through with all the obstruction and now he is capable to deal with any hard situation. So I took all the obstacles as a big opportunity to expand my technical expertise and enhance my skills and although I was bore of my life in those days but today I feel that those days made me competent, patient person, and fit for this company helping in gaining trust of organization.

He also said that if you are having any further studies plan then don’t fool yourself thinking of doing that with a job because I had thought of MBA when I graduated but up till know I didn’t. In job life all the plans are flopped as you have to concentrate in the assigned activities. You don’t get time for the rest of activities.

He also added if we work with good intention then all the things go towards expected direction. Don’t try to be over smart in career as it create hate in people mind for you and show extra kindness because you are spending the whole life with them, if not even think like that so you must be surrounded with people who like you and admire about you at your back not abuse you.

Your personality should be as like whenever your recognizant see you, smile comes in his face.

If your boss is strict, you would be lucky as he will make you make things in a perfect way rejecting several times so be patient and never abuse him among others as your words are remembered and may be someone use it as a weapon and morally it is also too bad. So just you must have strong self-esteem and try hard for a bright career and never lose hope as effort never dies.

I ended up thanking him for taking out time from his hectic work schedule.
