The Grinch that Stole the Republican Party

As I ponder how the man with the heart (and hands) five sizes too small has managed to inspire so much loyalty from his strongest supporters — I realized it’s not a matter of how. It’s Who. Cindy-Lou Who.

The iconic character. The Who who watches the Grinch steal the Christmas tree and believes the Grinch’s painfully obvious lie he is only stealing it to “fix” it.

Trump’s biggest supporters believe he will be their champion, even though his only relationships with real working people are the contractors he stiffs and the casino workers who lost their jobs throughout his frequent bankruptcies.

Diehard Republicans who do not even like him believe the party will be able to control him once they get him in office, even though he has shown no respect for Republican leaders like Paul Ryan and John McCain. And no respect for the separation of powers.

And even though he has shown no understanding of policy or world affairs, and even as he thumbs his nose at our democracy, here he stands as one of two potential candidates for President.

He has never been a real Republican. Or a real Democrat. He is power hungry by any means necessary and has gotten this far, in part, because he has found the party that (at the moment) contains the most Cindy-Lou Whos. And it’s gone something like this:

The Grinch snatched the nomination, with a push and a shove,
Then he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.

He turned around fast, and he saw a small Who!
Little Cindy-Lou Who, who was no more than two.

She stared at the Grinch and said, “why,
Why are you taking our Party? Why?”

But, you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick,
He thought up a lie, and he thought it up quick!

“Why, my sweet little tot,” the fake Republican lied,
“I’m the one who can bring the most votes to our side.

And I’m the least racist guy you ever did meet
But I’ll bring all the racists to our side of the street”

Then he went up the ranks, the deplorable liar.
Setting off an unstoppable media fire.

Hosting rallies, encouraging hate-fueled fights
Disrespecting Americans’ constitutional rights

Dismissing our trusted allies with so little care
Hero-worshipping adversaries, voter beware
Evidence of his loyalties are demonstrated right there

Please do not be a Cindy-Lou Who.
Disavowing him is the only right thing to do.

Perhaps this song might help you see
This Grinch is a threat to our democracy:

You’re a madman
Mister Trump
You’re a racist, soulless clout.
Your heart is full of Klan sheets
Exposed in Nazi re-tweets
Mister Tru-ump
A hate-filled, self-hating, insecure Lout

You’re a liar
Mister Trump
Committer of fraud and felony
You stiff all your contractors
Bankrupt all your shareholders
And Trump U….
Is a ponze scheme school

You’re a vile one. Mister Trump.
Your tic tacs fool no one
You believe you are entitled
To grab women anywhere
Mister Tru-ump
Your day in court is almost here…

Ba-da-da-da-da Ba-da-da-da-da-da…

Okay. If you’re honest with yourself you know his heart will never grow three sizes — the only thing that grows is his boner for power. He wants to grab power with his tiny hands the way he grabs women. He will never stand up for Republican values. His suspicious relationship with Russia proves that at best he wants to be an Oligarch but possibly points to something much more sinister and treasonous. The only way to stop him is for the Who’s to come together and see him for who he is. And keep him away from the Oval Office with a Zillion and a half foot pole.
