A Lot of Leaders Died
The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov died on 2nd September after 25 years of power. In 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union, Karimov declared Uzbekistan an independent nation and then basically became the dictator. Currently Uzbekistan is in a very uncertain situation, and elections are scheduled for December 4th.
President of Israel in 2014, Shimon Peres died on September 28th. The current president is Reuven Rivlin.
The King of Thailand since 1946, (yes 1946!) Bhumibol Adulyadej (age 88) died on October 13th. Considered a symbol of unity, Bhumibol’s death lead to countrywide mourning. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn (age 63) will succeed him, but no one knows when and the delay has caused much speculation over the country’s future political stability. There was also some talk of the princess taking the throne which would be quite cool.
