Why are Millennials so Lost?

Oh Millennials! How lost and confused you are. Why can’t you just grow up already? It’s time to put down your expensive Starbucks Latte Macchiato and iPhone, and become an adult. Stop going out to brunch and taking Instagram selfies with your morning mimosa. And stop acting all cool because you are “adulting.”

I am joking. We are lost. We are confused. And honestly, fuck everyone else who says differently. We are a generation of lost souls with handed down false dreams. Why are we getting so much blame for our actions? Who raised us? Who bought us everything? Who told us to go to college and get ourselves in massive amount of debt? I am pretty much most of our actions are not self-generated. Maybe some are, but who are the ones who created and built the reality that we are living in? We are not lazy, we are just lost and escaping.

Buying a house and settling down sounds really appealing to me, until I look at my student loan debt, and the pathetic paycheck I get from my job, that my expensive liberal arts degree got me. I get it though, we are privileged and I should be grateful for the things that I have and I should be grateful that I could even go to college. And that is just part of the problem, who created this sense of privilege? Who let us get away with not doing much and did not always hold us accountable? Why the fuck did we all get trophies when we did not deserve one?

I am kind of annoyed at hearing about why our generation sucks. I believe our generation wants to make change, great change. We see how messed up everything is. We are much more sensitive to subtle energies and do not want to be tied down to the mundane. We want to explore, create, and interact with the magic of life — what is so wrong with that? Why can’t you let us play?

We are lost because no one is helping us. We want to pursue jobs and tackle new obstacles, but most of us can’t because the opportunity is not there. Millennials are not lazy, but I think Millennials are slowly CREATING the change in the world. We are not conforming to the bullshit. I’ve watched too many parents and elders slave away and die in their own misery and regrets. I am pretty sure our generation sees that and does not want to be part of that story.

Millennials are lost. We are confused. But if you give us a chance, we are willing to create a new cultural narrative for a better tomorrow.
